BMW R80 – NS-R02
We decided this BMW needed to be taken to another level with some serious motor upgrades as well as brakes and suspension.
A rather tired looking 1984 BMW R80 mono which had also been down the road on one side came to us which became NS-R02. There wasn’t much worth saving, even the tank and seat were damaged.
The motor has had a full rebuild with a Siebenrock big bore kit taking it to around 1070cc, this was of course bigger barrels and pistons, a bottom end rebuild, a larger sump with extra oil capacity as well as other modifications. The front suspension was taken from a late BMW S1000R, perhaps a little overkill for the performance of this machine but combined with the far bigger, and more advanced brakes it was a winner.
There wasn’t a great deal on the bike to begin with but with all the enhancements in power and performance it seemed an obvious choice to have an element of BMW Motorsport colours, this contrasting with the gold forks and black engine proved to be stunning.
No comparison to the previous bike, bucket loads of power and stopping power to match, the knobbly tyres would prove to be a little precarious on wet / damp roads but certainly added to the fun.
